The '87 does not have ABS, traction control, or a DI cassette, things which have been known to give problems on the newer 9000s, so those won't go out. However, '87 is a bad year for wiring. That said, my car has 323k on it and I have only had to mend a few wires due to degraded insulation, in the engine compartment. The problem is the insulation becomes brittle and in the worst cases disintegrates, leaving completetly exposed wires. I suspect climate may have something to do with the extent of the problem, as my car has always lived in a mild climate year 'round.
Off hand I can't think of other problems on the '87 which won't apply to newer years of the 9000, but I'm sure there may be some. Pretty much everything in my car has been replaced at this point except the body, turbo, wiring, and some other miscellaneous things. I consider that as a result of age though, not the year.
