The 9000 C/V joints have a much tighter fit onto the drive shaft then the 900 model and could be really stubborn to get going, sliding off, especially since you need to keep the snap ring open at least long enough to make the C/V joint move so that the snap ring comes away from its groove in drive shaft.
It is pliers available that with a flat tip (duck bill) that operates backwards (opens up when pressing the handles).
I put the drive shaft up in a sturdy vise, grab a big lead hammer and the plier. Open the snapring up and give the C/V joint one good/hard hit to make it move just a hair so that the snap ring clears the groove.
It is also important to study the snap ring when opening it up so that it is opening all around and not only on the side where the two tabs are.
Check so that the snap ring can be rotated slightly in the groove before applying the plier and giving the C/V joint a whack.
If the snapring is stuck on the back side, you may have to tap the C/V joint back onto the shaft slightly to free up the snapring before giving the C/V joint it its final blow to knock it off.
