2.3l head compatability?

I'll start with the basic question of, What year heads will work on a 2.3l 1992 turbo engine? Will any 2.3l head work, even non turbo?
The long is, I did my head gasket about 5 years ago, I had the head flattened at a machine shop. But still had slow coolant loss. It got worse to a point of looking like a full blown head gasket, except no oil mixing with coolant, or visa-versa. I used Barsleak to delay the inevitable. And it worked, unless I got too much boost.
I suspected the head might have a crack/leak, but it's hard to check once the head is back on. So now I've ripped it apart again. All the bolts were (correctly) tight, old style, and reused. The head gasket looked perfect. The water passages all look smooth, except the ones near cylinder 2, they look porous. The porous look seems wrong to me.
So, that's the reason for my original question, since I think I need a different head. Do the heads actually have problems like that? It ran great, except for all the white smoke.
