Doing that will disable APC control of the wastegate, so you'll get uncontrolled boost. As fun as it will be, doing it more than like once can damage your engine, so be careful!

If you get boost when doing the test, the turbo itself if OK, so its time to move on to other areas. You say that you did a simple check of the BPC valve? What did you do? The most reliable (only?) way to tell if the BPC is working is to swap in a known good one. I'd also check the wastegate arm and the hooter valve, along with the various vac lines.

If the car boosting at base boost or not at all? Base boost is approximately at the mid-yellow point on the stock gauge. If you had zero boost, I think you'd know because the car would be so slow that it would be almost undriveable.
