the compressor works.
i've gauged the low side when adding coolant. according to my guage, it was around 20-25 or so and not too cool before adding the 1/2-2/3 can or so last night, which took it up around 30-35, and now it's blowing nice and cold air (just on medium fan because of my controller issue).
<<sure you didn't screw up the air mix flaps redoing the blower? >>
i was careful - it blows hot when i put the temp up, and blows nice and cold when i put it down to LO, so if there's mix, it's hard to tell, can the mix be slight? only thing I can think of is that piece of insulation may have stuck in the flaps, but i was careful to be sure that was fixed firmly in place. if that's an issue, it's a minor one.
the compressor definitely works, as well as it always has, it seems...
trouble is, after recharging, a few weeks later i lose my cool (pun slightly intended), and have to recharge it again.
1/2 - 1 can is all I need to make it cold again.
last night it took 1/2 a can before the evaporator line cooled off and started to sweat.
nice and cold today, but in a month, i'll have to recharge again.
R134a in R134a compressor
now that it's been driven around, i'll recheck for dye leaks, but could I see if the compressor had a leak?
the lines all look clean, and in fine shape. no obvious dirt or oil to be seen. when i purchased the car, the seller had told me he had AC work done (though I couldn't find receipts), and it did blow ice cold consistently until my blower fan died and I wasn't using it.
i've noticed the dirt/oil issue on my 92, for comparison. the line was always dirty from the compressor to the condensor where it meets the compressor fitting, and now it's falling apart there and my AC is out on that car too. that leak is obvious, you can pull at the hose and see fresh oil.
thanks,
aaron
