I lowered the left side of the subframe, just as if one was removing the tranmission. To do this, I put the car on jackstands, made a "bridge" between the fenders out of a 4x4 piece of lumber resting on some 2x4 and 2x2 pieces, held up the power train with some 800 lb. chain. As I recall, you have an engine hoist, so this may be redundant. There is a small-diameter (1/2") rod on both sides connecting the inner fenders to the subframe which will probably be in the way, they come out with one bolt at each end.
As long as you are replacing the steering rack, this is a great time to renew the hoses (get new rubber hose put in the metal ends at a hydraulic shop) and tie rod ends (both sides will be less than an alignment when you have to do this again later).
