I have an 88T with a brand new slave cylinder, pp, and disc, and an 89s with worn out everything. The 88 clutch feel is light and it engages nicely about halfway through the stroke. The 89 has been getting stiffer and engaging lower but, as hmr says, almost doesn't need a clutch to shift. I do believe that higher temperature makes the clutch pedal stiffer but can't say why. You ought to be able to get a few miles out of that 88(at least to your driveway) and then you could do the clutch.
