as part of the normal head removal process, you're going to be removing both camshafts. Or rather, you remove the cams (and valve tappets) to prepare the head for the resurfacing that you MUST do. You will of course remove the tensioner beforehand, but getting the cam gears off is required to remove the chain.
I would budget more like $500 to $800 for the job -- resurfacing the head usually costs in the $125-$150 range, and there are a number of other bits and pieces you'll want to renew while you're at it for such a big job. Water pump is one.
