Two dipsticks just floating around and no problem.
That's great, Anybody else got one of these type of
stories?
Saab's have a reputation of
being delicate and expensive.
I don't think so - the only car I have had
that was tougher than
my Saab was a 1962 Baja Bug (the one with the
canvas sunroof) - that thing was bulletproof.
I fixed the distributor on it once in the middle of Nebraska
using points from a 1950's ford tractor.
Well, the Saab's not as easy to work on as my old ford truck -
I could sit on the fenders with my legs in side the
hood while I worked on its inline 6 cylinder. But it is
easier and (so far) more economical than work on my '92
Bonneville. Maybe the cost reputation is deserved - I
DIY almost everything, and a good mechanic is expensive.
I was thiking of the Bonneville when I put up the gas stats,
because, even with the 3800 V6 it had, the Bonneville had
gas milage about the same as my Saab.
Final line though - the 9kt is much more fun to drive
than the bonneville. A little louder, but so much more
responsive in that 30-60 mph range. I like the rally car feel
of my 9kt over the floating livingroom feel of the Bonneville too.
I've mostly had VW bugs and pickups in my life
(IH Scout - now there's a machine as quirky as a Saab),
plus a couple of strays. Second Saab now, already thinking
about 97/98 CSE some time next year. But, eventually I
guess I'll have to leave the 9k range and learn something
about the newer models.
Still - love to hear more improbable, funny Saab stories
Buck
