I read the posts and am baffled that anyone would believe 4 oz of acetone in a gas tank would have any effect at all unless there was some water previously in the tank. 4 ounces? Think about it. There is more MTBE in winter gasoline than that. And acetone is nothing special as a solvent. Chemically it is the closest organic compound to water. Like MTBE, isopropyl alcohol, and methanol, it may be good for dissolving water into the gasoline phase, but it's pretty useless otherwise in a fuel tank.
Varnishes and gunk are much better dissolved in high molecular weight organics. Seafoam, for example, is a mixture of light naptha and hydrotreated heavy naptha- perfect for dissolving varnishes, carbon, etc. Just stay clear of the smoke, if you have carbon in the cylinders!
