I had previously put new bearings into my tranny and had no problem. My tranny case is leaking and I will replace it but use the shafts and gears from my tranny, but put in new bearings which are about Cdn$250. I don't replace the needle (roller) bearing. I am not sure about the talk of Saab using inferior bearings. The bearing places here sell what they call about Class 4 bearings. I believe Class 10 is the most expensive but are not in stock and I used them on a racing cart. The bearing people say that higher classes wouldn't make any difference in longeivity and when studying a book from SNF (a bearing producer) they had tables that show the life expectancy of bearings under various conditions but did not consider the effect of various classes. I believe that the only difference would be a closer tolerance.
