...and your car's well past the model years that really had the chain problems. Last bad year was '93 - and it's not the chain itself that's the problem, but rather, the balance shaft sprocket on the crank.
I'd have to assume that your car has had good maintenance, particularly frequent oil changes?
Frankly, if the chain's not rattling at all, I'd start looking for another mechanic. His counsel is horrible (again, assuming no rattle)!
