Use rosin core solder, made for electrical use.
The key is to clean the wires so they are shiny, which means you might have to cut off some wire to get back from the burnt copper. Use flux made for electrical soldering on the wires before heating. When the iron is hot, flow some solder onto the end of the iron. This will help heat the wire faster. Don't move the connection until cool. A good solder joint will be shiny. Clean off the flux before taping the wires. I usually like to cut down about 3/8" into the foam of the cushion where I've done the fix and slip the reapired area down into the slit. The solder joint will always be stiff, so putting it down in the slit protects if from having to flex as much.
