Help!
I am trying to help my Ex-wife with her 91 9K, currently inoperable.
First, I have much experience with the C900 (I own 3), and while some similarities exist, the 9K is a different animal. Her car has the 2.3 turbo engine and automatic, with approx. 120K miles.
Approx. 3 months ago, the car died on her and was towed home. I found the fuel pump to be kaput, after determining it was the $$ Bosch model, replaced both the pump and fuel filter. The car ran OK, and turbo would boost to nearly the red line (I have yet to set the base boost, probably low). She resumed driving the car a few weeks, then stated that it began to stumble/misfire badly and the temp. gage went nearly into the red. When I test ran the car (cold), all seemed OK, but the AC compressor was noisey so I unhooked the power to the clutch...car seemed OK, warmed up to temp, fans cycled & all looked good. She drove again a short distance, and the car repeated the "rough running/no power" symptoms, and it has sat parked since. My son has test run the car this week, said it starts fine and idles OK, but no roadtest.
Last, since she purchased this car, I replaced the alternator, spark plugs, and several vacuum lines which failed the Mi-T-vac test. Since I now believe we must have adequate fuel, I am suspecting the ignition module (center of valve cover, firing all 4 cylinders), or perhaps the crank trigger switch? I hate to just start buying parts and swapping.....
I appreciate the wisdom of any of your 9K'ers who have been here, done that. Please advise !
