Proper torque

Though I really haven't looked at this except for the pictures, I agree the torque is probably crucial in this; I don't think there should be any shear forces on the bolt if properly torqued; it should be in tension, with the friction of the surfaces keeping it from developing sideways forces on the bolt. Once it starts loosening up, then all bets are off, with the resulting rocking motion creating a vicious cycle, loosening it further and creating shear forces it wasn't intended to withstand.
A regular check of the bolt to make sure it doesn't loosen up, especially after a new installation, might be all that's needed-
