If you can't hear it in the engine bay very well, it's unlikely to be anything within the valve train, nor on the pulley end of the engine. Could this be a vibration coming from your exhaust system? I agree that transmission comes to mind, but a torque convertor problem should be audible at the engine bay. Nonetheless, a stethoscope or rubber tube placed on various parts of the tranny would be a good starting place. Then I would lie down on the ground on either side of the car with it running and try to hear what the exhaust system sounds like. How do you feel about getting under the car with it running? Of course, lift both front wheels, double jack stands, block both rear wheels in front and behind. Must be on completely level surface. Make sure exhaust is cool before attempting, etc.
Another option: something within the dashboard which is vibrating. Remove radio from its "sheath" and put your ear there. This kind of problem should display a resonance phenomenon, in that when the engine vibration frequency matches the vibration frequency of the thing, whatever it is, then the vibration is louder.
