I paid just under $7000 for my 1998 9000CSE (automatic)with 103,000 on the odometer two months ago.

It came with lots of paperwork (was always taken to the dealer it seems) for every repair. I was insistent that I get the paperwork once the dealer hinted that it may be available.

The last major repair was a resurfaced cylinder head (car apparently was overheating as the notes say) The bill was $1900. This was about 8000 miles ago on my car...so I figure I got that for "free."

Also, I can see that the 95K major service was performed recently as well.

Since getting my car, I've had to fix only a few things:

$200 for new BPC (turbo solenoid) - car had good enough power for me, but never realized this wasn't working until I saw the turbo needle wasn't moving much.

$75 for a new drivers sunvisor (old one was floppy/sagging a bit)
$15 for a new passenger's door courtesy light (old one was cracked and broken off in places)
$5 for a new foglight bulb
$75 for floormats
$20 for a new trunk light old one was cracked and shot)
All this purchased at Eeuroparts.com. Good parts place, was recommended by folks here.
$50 for a new K&N airfilter for a bit more zip (ok, maybe 0.5 HP at 5000 RPM) and less maintenance down the road. Got this from Jegs.com

I also just ordered 4 new tires, as the existing ones were so-so. (One is leaking slowly - plugged repair is leaking, one has a bubbled sidewall, and the others are ok. All tires are about 4.5 years old after I read the tire date code.) I'm trying a set of Kumho SPT tires for a sporty feel - $300 at the TireRack.

So depending on the condition of the car, you can do a few things here and there to make it in really outstanding condition (I'm not very mechanically inclined and it was easy to fix these things with a torx screwdriver).
