I had done exactly that before I installed a complete 3" system on my '94 Aero afew months ago.

As to the stock exhaust system without the middle muffler, I thought that it sounded worse, but certainly a bit louder, than with the middle muffler. I would rather it be quiet and sound good than loud and sounding bad (to my ears, at least).

At the same time, you will save money by not having to replace the middle muffler. That's why I removed it the first time and looking at it that way, I wouldn't hesitate to do it. So there. You have two contrasting suggestions within the same post...

As to the 3" system, what an upgrade. I used Jak Stoll's downpipe and had a local shop build the rest using a Magnaflow cat and muffler. It seems like there's another whole level of power past what used to be available.
