No... CV joints are fine... and furthurmore, I just went out and found the problem... I didn't torque the axle nut tight enough, and it was loose. I snugged it up and it's quiet again. I'm sure I did do some damage to the bearing though... but I only drove on it for a couple miles after it started making noise... hopefully it'll last a while.
Time to borrow or buy the correct socket and torque to spec... I'd rather buy tools than another hub... that's for sure.
