melted relay socket - any best fix ? Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Thu, 30 Mar 2006 17:46:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi Folks.
When I got my '91 9KT, the PO had the socket for the cooling fan
relay jumpered, and had melted one of the holes into a mishapen
mess - and the relay will not go in properly anymore.
Obviously, this is important for me to fix.
My concerns are twofold: to get the hole open again, and to make
certain the tab connects firmly enough with the socket or connector.
The only ideas I have are to either melt the socket hole open by
using a small, heated screwdriver; or to get a sharp pick and
carefully pick out the obstruction bit by bit.
Aside of that - I wonder if it is better to do something like
drilling out the sockets and connecting the relay by pushing
each connector onto the relay by hand ?
The other option is to cut out the whole relay box and splice in
a better one - but I am leary of that much splicing in a damp
environment like Vermont - that would seem to beg for some
connections to go bad and for it to be more trouble than it is
worth.
Please educate me on this if you have fixed yours and know a
good way ?
Thanks,
mark
