My 94 Aero almost started this morning, but before it fired up it went flat. Now it cranks over with an occasional hint of a spark, but generally nothing. Checking the MIL, it flashes twice indicating the MAP sensor has died. Are there any checks I can do to test the MAP? I also thought a MAP failure would result in Limp Home mode, defaulting to the TPS for air mass control, not complete death.

Perhaps an unrelated detail, I'd noticed in the past few months that the spark plug cleaning after shut down wasn't happening. Abusot suggested it might be the IAC and I admit I haven't checked that yet. (You know, the car still seemed to run fine and I had better things to do...)

OK, so I looked up the IAC in the Engine Management System Trionic 2:7 manual, and it read "When the accelerator is not activated and the throttle butterfly closed, the engine receives air only via the idle air control valve." Maybe holding down the pedal will bypass the IAC, and VOILLA! It took about 30 seconds of cranking, but it it started firing a cylinder at a time, and it eventually lit up. The idle is a little rough, but not like it's missing or anything serious. I ran it at about 4k rpm for a few minutes and it seems to be OK. I even let it sit for an hour, and it seems to start and run OK. I haven't test driven it because it raining here now.

I apologize for such a long post, but I'm nervous about driving it. I still get a MAP sensor error from the CEL (aka MIL) but the engine seems to run well for the moment. My questions have distilled down to MAP or IAC? Or did something else hickup? I was also looking through the Diagnosis and Fault Tracing 1:5 manual where it talks about a data link connector on the left side of the engine bay. I couldn't find one anywhere. Does my car have one?

Thanks to those who have read this through and those that can offer suggestions.
