Limp Home Mode Questions - HELP!

I'd like other opinions on my LHM situation so I decided this was the place. I just recently bought my 93' 9000 Aero and one day while I was driving, it went into LHM mode. I got back home fine even though it's terrible driving in LHM and after the car sat for a while, was able to drive a short distance, then kicked back over into LHM again. I was reading about replacing the "Safety Runoff Valve" so I just bought one. My car is at 119k with the original SRV so I figured it is about time to get a new one. When I unplug my battery for a while, the car starts fine and runs fine, then will randomly kick over into LHM, sometimes driving for miles and sometimes less, same thing happens when I let it sit for a while. Does this sound like the valve? If it is, do I just hook up the new valve, then disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer, then start the car and let it idle for 5 minutes?
