I can understand.

Our '03 9-5 wagon (acquired 2 weeks back) is very nice. It feels more refined (lower NVH), a tad more agile and is quieter than my basically stock '96 CSE 5-spd with 123K on the clock. It is not as fast or quick, and the seats are a bit smaller. I like it a lot, but since it's my wife's ride I've only driven it a couple of times.

It is still a Saab, but it IS different. It is NOT a 9000. Much as I like it, I still plan to upgrade, over-maintain and cherish my 9K (and my daughter's '95 CS auto) as long as I reasonably can. The 9000 is a unique vehicle. Speed, acceleration, good handling, room, comfort, practicality, safety, fuel economy, fun to drive, style. Pick any ten!

But if it died or was killed, and I couldn't find a good 9K to replace it, I would probably get a 9-5. They are not the same, but I could live with one as my daily driver. It is still a Saab. Not the same. but when you get used to something as all-around exceptional as a 9000 it's hard to accept something else.

The thing is, no one... NO ONE... makes cars like the 9000 anymore. Where else do you get a hugely comfortable 28-30 mpg rocket that can do 140+ mph, take a twisty road at 2X+ the speed limit, hold four adults in great comfort on long trips, and last for 200K miles or more? They are the best kept secret in the world of automobiles.

I know the more recent 9-5s are probably more reliable and do many of the same things, but to me the 9000 is still the last of "real" Saabs.
