On the 1990, the charging ports are on the back of the compressor. I am not a big fan of converting an R-12 system to R134a without doing it correctly. This means completely cleaning out the old mineral oil, adding new R134a compatable oil, changing the receiver/dryer, fixing the leak that caused the problem in the first place, and pulling a vacuum on the system for at least 45 minutes. Once that is done, introduce the new refrigerant by weight. Search the board, but I think it is 30-32 ounces for a converted system. (The system originally used 39 ounces of R-12.)
