Anyone worked with fuel line tubes

Hi,

So I was changing my fuel pump on my 94 9000 cde and broke one of the angled inlet valves that connects the pump to the line. I got a new one for 8 bucks or so (I love it when my car is %100 depending on one crappy plastic piece), but I'm not sure how to get it to slip into the fuel line tube. It seems like a pretty tight and inflexible hose. Normally I might put a blowtorch to the hose and soften it to slip the tube in, but I'm sitting right on top of a full gas tank. Doesn't sound like a good idea. On my 85 9000 I managed to do the same job by dipping the line into a cup of boiling water, but it was a royal pain in the butt, and didn't really work that well.

So my question is, what's the right way to connect this piece to the line? Has anyone done this sucessfully? Any suggestiongs would be welcome.
