I've done it a few times. The 9000 widens as you move closer to the seats so you will be able to put the new headliner in the car up to the front headrests and have the rest sit on the trunk "shelf". With a newer version 9000, you'll probably have to have the headliner up on your head, but you're not driving across the country with it, I imagine.
