Question 1 - is the cabin fan turned on? The cabin fan must be at 1, 2 or 3 for the AC to work.
Question 2 - does your fan blower work right? A common failure is for the cabin fan to run only on High. If this is the case with your car, it needs to get fixed. The AC circuit needs the fan on (see #1), and if it doesn't see the fan signal, the AC won't come on. Fixing this is relatively easy.
If the fan is on, and you can get low speeds, come back and let us know, and we can go from there.
