I presume that the back seat held people, not iron, and the wood stove fit in the hatch. The 9K IS a great car. But, do you get *better* mpg when you have no wood stove and no passengers?

My 9KTs turn in a solid 26.5 mgp averaged over eons of time. Most of my drives do not include wood stoves, a full pack of passengers, or traffic lights and jams to slow me down, but the minivans, SUVs, Buicks (especially when driven by elders wearing hats) do, which in a very unappreciated way may actually improve my cars' mpg). On highway trips, like Maryland to Vemont, I've seen better than 28 mpg, with heavy roof top carrier, 2 almost teen kids, two growing german shepard puppies, one wife (and me too), at an average speed of 70 mph. For short, favorable segments, yes 30+ is possible.
