My 87 9kT started acting up the other day. I was driving along and pushed the clutch pedal and it stuck to the floor. I thought it got caught under the floor mat (as it has sometimes done) but a few shifts later it stuck down again. I pulled it up with my foot, noting it wasn't caught under the mat, and finished my errands repeating the process more and more often. I finally made it home and decided I probably needed to bleed the system. (duh)
Well I started bleeding and got a few bubbles, but couldn't get a good pedal. I was puzzled... the clutch and slave cylinder were 25k miles old, although those miles were over the last 6 years. In addition, the master cylinder was replaced about 2 years ago (and only a few thousand miles ago) so I couldn't believe the master was gone. None the less, I bled and bled, getting some pretty large chunks of something through the system. The chunks finally stopped and so did the bubbles, but no pedal. I finally took out the master cylinder and took it apart, only to find the parts inside were in perfect condition. The cylinder seals were flexible and the cylinder was rust-free and polished. I've put it back together and bled it until no bubbles came out. Still no pedal. I'm at my wits end.
I've had to resort to not only pressurizing the master cylinder, but also pumping the pedal to get fluid to move through the system. I'm not about to pull the trans (I'm working on my 94 Aero's leaking slave cylinder right now!) on an old 87 to fix the slave if it's bad in so few miles. Anyone got any suggestions why the system won't purge? Should I keep trying, or is there a way to pump up noe section at a time? (I've only heard of the pressurize from the master cylinder method on any post or website.)
Thanks for your thoughts... -Cal
