I'm pretty sure you can replace an injector with the intake in place. Don't quote me on that one.

You will spill coolant when you pull out the sensor. Two approaches here - first, drain some of the coolant down. You don't need to drain it all. The second is the 'quick swap' - pull out the old one, stick in a new one quick. Clean up the spilled coolant off the exhaust where it will stink.

Before I replaced the sensor, I'd test it. If you can get to the leads with an ohmmeter, you can get an idea if it's working. You need to disconect the connector. Or, you can disconnect the connector at the Trionic box and measure there. After the car has been sitting a while and the engine is at ambient temperature, you can measure the sensor - it should be about 2600 ohms at 68F. At warmer temperatures, it should be lower - 320 ohms at 176F. But if the sensor is bad, I'd suspect it would read wrong at all temps.

I thought up a way to do a pretty non-invasive test. I assume this puff of smoke is repeatable. Try this - park the car, and don't turn the ignition off - instead, pull the fuel pump fuse. The engine will die. Then turn the car off, and put the fuse back in. Wait whatever is the usual amount of time, and restart the car. I suggest that you turn the key to ON first for about 5 seconds before starting it. (The fuel pump will run a bit, bringing up pressure).

If you don't get the puff, it is likely a leaky injector. Pulling the fuse means the fuel pressure will drop way down before the engine dies, so if it is a leaky injector, it won't leak as much.
