try to get some lube down in the connector. there are two orings for each one. The method I use to get them out is to get a large flat blade screw driver. Pry on connector ribs using the trunk floor as fulcrum. Make sure you pull directly up. If the picture posted correctly, you can see the rings around the check valve. Do not use the line for leverage or any part of the 90 degree part of the connector. When reconnecting, I put vaseline on the orings and the connectors slid right in.
Also in removing the fuel pump collar, you'll need to make a tool to span across the pump. This not only lets you get the old one out, allows you to get the new one tight enough to prevent leaks.
