I actually did bypass the safety valve by hooking the hose to the throttle body to the red/white one-way valve. And the car drove normally. The backup cable was sticking out for at least 30 seconds after I turned off the car, so I know there's no leak. That's why I was wondering how dangerous it is to do that, in case I need to drive it.
My real curiosity is, what is the valve doing in the energized, and unenergized states? Right now, both the safety valve, and the one for the cruise control (I call it the spare) act the same way. unenergized the vacuum side vents to the bottom connection. Withthe ignition on, it energizes, and the the vacuum doesn't go any where. I tested this with a vacuum pump. I assume this is not what it should be doing, so I need a new one?
Thanks, Bradley
