SavannahDan: It is NOT normal for fluid to come out of the inspection holes in the bell housing. Double check that it is actually oil, because it is most likely brake (hydraulic fluid). The reason the pedal goes to the floor is that there is no resistance to your "pumping" the fluid, due to a bad seal. Therefore, the fluid leaks out. If I'm not mistaken, the reason there is not a large puddle is that the only fluid that has leaked out is what was in the slave cylinder - a fairly small amount. There are only two components to the system: the master cylinder and the slave. If the master cylinder were bad, you would have fluid leaking down around the clutch pedal from under the dash board.
The job is a royal pain unless you have a good arage / working area, and you should plan to replace the clutch and pressure plate and thowout bearing as well as long as you are there. I'm getting set to do mine, too, so I feel your pain.
