The sunroof assembly is this big, flat pan that bolts to the roof of the car. When the sunroof is slid forward in this assembly, it gets lifted up into the hole in the roof of the car body. If your rust is not on the actual car body, that is, outside the perimeter of the rectangular sunroof hole, then it is on the sunroof assembly. Removing it is a big job, requiring removing the headliner.
