What a wild ride.
It went from a cooling system problem to a head gasket leak, and finally
when the head came off the car, it was cracked near a valve at #2 cyl.
Finding a good head proved difficult, and now, after all this time, my
wonderful car is back, and tighter than ever since I've had it.
My indie is a great and helpful man, and found/fixed several vacuum
leaks as well as 1/2 dozen other things while the car was at his shop.
I can only say that not only am I grateful to have such an honest and
hard working mechanic, but also to be back in my car - driving a 3/4
ton pickup for daily use for several weeks can sure make a guy miss
his Saab !!!
I always tell anyone who considers owning a 9K that they must plan on
the car needing a 'snack' of $500 or so, every so often - and for me,
this time the car needed a full, multi-course meal.
Someone may ask - was it worth it ?
Bottom line conclusion - yes, 100% - I may never find a better car
than a '91 9KT, and I would do it all over again willingly (all but
the truck part - I might rent a cheapo instead next time...).
It's not just a CAR - it's a COMMITMENT !
