central locking control unit, 1992 = 1998??

My 98 CSE has the intermittent failed central locking issue, ... well, hardly ever works is more accurate. I just about always hear a faint "pssish" when I turn the key in the door lock, but that's about all that happens. Same when using the button on the central console.
While some of the door locks are stiff and certainly could benefit from being lubricated, I suppose the problem is within the control unit, especially since the associated fuse is not being blown. I see from the posts that the controller is in the dash under the steering wheel somewhere and is easy to remove. Some folks have suggested that simply disconnecting plug and cleaning contacts yields success, others say re-potting sodder joints within the case, or swapping the door lock relay with the gas tank lid relay can bring life back to the unit.
I happen to have a carcus of a 1992 9000T on my driveway. Its been a great donor to my 98 & 95 CSEs. Anyone know if the central lock controller in the 1992 will work in the 1998?
thanks
Ed N
