When my car died a couple of weeks ago I had no time to fully check it out. I narrowed it down to electical failure. Now I have pulled things apart I see the cause of my woe. This is that the main power supply lead to the relay panel has melted and is no longer supplying power, so no fuel pump. The question is: why?
I suspect that over the years the wire has become brittle (the relay panel has been out a couple of times for replacement relays), and the strands have gradually broken leading to overheating of the remaining strands until they melted. If this is indeed the case then I assume I can splice in a new wire and drive off happily, but I wondered if anyone else has had anything similar happen or has any suggestions to prevent the same thing happening again.
