Hi.
I've done acoustical room measurements for architectural design firms, aided in audio for large format concert tours, and worked for royal caribbean as a audio technician on one of their ships for a year...
...and i also own a few 9kt's.
I believe, after switching out the stock speakers in ALL of them, that they are certainly 4 ohms.
It truly doesn't matter what the independent ohm rating of the speaker itself is, when comparing a 4" 4ohm speaker to a 4" 3ohm speaker...
...as the ohm rating itself doesn't have much overall effect on it's sound.
the 3 ohm will not sound better, and vise-versa.
the ohm rating WILL have an effect on the amplifier being used to run the speakers however... and if using 3 4 ohm stock speakers, and a single 3 ohm speaker...
...quite honestly i don't believe you'll notice a difference in sound, however, your amplifier may get slightly hotter, as it is putting out a little bit more power in watts to the 3 ohm speaker than the others.
The 3 ohm may sound louder, but in your case it's probably a newer, completely different speaker than your stock saab speakers.
It will have a completely different power rating, and also frequency response.
IMHO any speaker at all will sound better than the stock speakers, which i hate, and every single one i've looked at has had a problem of some sort. usually the paper cone ripping in some place.
Anyways...
if you did use the 3 ohm, it may not get enough power from your amplifier, and that would lead to the speaker blowing early, as UNDER-powering a speaker will destroy it faster than OVER powering it. (due to there being a lack of electro-magnetic energy available to keep the speaker's voice coil centered in the magnet while the speaker is being pushed in and out... it exits the magnet completely and POP's OUT, or blows, then you get the crunchy sound from it)
so, eventually, the speaker will blow, or your amp will take unnecessary abuse by putting out too much power, creating too much heat... or... the speaker could be close enough to the stock speakers specs so nothing bad happens... but why take the risk...
go buy some 4" boston acoustics speakers for the front, and depending on your year 9000, get 6" or 6x9 replacements for the rear.
Back in the day i had a stupid speaker setup in my old 90 9kt
