haha....I can see how that would suck!
It almost sounds like the memory buttons are being activated somehow. I'd start by switching around the relays under the seat for others elsewhere in the car just to make sure power TO the seat is rock solid.
I'd also pull apart the plastic side of the seat where the memory and seat adjustment stuff is; look for a gummed-up switch where it might be getting stuck in position. Make sure all of your wiring is nice and clean with no worn parts that could be shorting out.
Might be a good idea also to pull apart the "brain" under the drivers seat, pull the cover off and just spray it off with compressed air, or a can of electrical parts cleaner to make sure there isn't something metallic rolling around in there, causing traces and components to be shorted. The seat moves when the hand controls tell the brain to move it, then the brain moves the motors. If the motors won't work without a command, so I'd say your problem has to either be the hand controls or the brain itself.
I've read that the 96 and 97 used a different brain than earlier Aero seats as well. Keep us posted.
