225/50-16 Goodyear GS-D3s on 16x7.5 Ronal LVs on my '92 9000T. Made a huge difference.
I've been running 205/50-16 PZeros for the past ten-plus years, had long concluded they were the best dry-weather tire available in that size (except maybe for the brief period Michelin was selling a 205/50-16 MXX3.)
But a 205/50-16 just isn't a big enough tire for the car.
The 225/50-16 Goodyears offer better dry grip, better ride quality, far better wet-weather grip, and they add a little heft to the steering (IMO a good thing.) There's no tramlining or lack of straight-line stability.
But...I'm willing to bet money they won't fit on the stock wheels on a pre '93 car.
The '86-92 cars have small front fenders. With the stock 27mm offset wheels even a 205/55-16 will require trimming back the fender-lip mounting studs flush with the nuts, and some wider examples of that size e.g. Pirelli may still rub. Been there, done that.
The '93-98 cars have bigger front fenders and more room.
The Ronal LVs as manufactured have a 35mm offset, Ronal then adds an 8mm spacer to push them out to the stock 27mm offset. Gary at Ronal was sure they'd fit with the spacers, even in front, but I knew from past experience that they wouldn't so I had them send me a set of snap-in centering rings.
Sure enough, with the spacers they rubbed. Without the spacers they work beautifully. Plenty of clearance to the strut. A little rubbing on the inner fender liner at full lock but that's the only negative. If I were feeling truly anal I might have tried a 3mm spacer.

- I wouldn't recommend using 225 tires on a 6.5" rim., AdamB
