Dear Colleagues,
I know that there are numerous threads concerning radios and installation etc. but I still have a bit of confusion I'm hoping one of you helpful folks can clear up for me.
I have the HK system with the amp under the seat. The factory Clarion head unit is flaky and I'm going to replace it. I recently removed the CD player since I only use my iPod with cassette adaptor and radio, and put in a cup/coin holder which I found on Ebay. I would like to install an Alpine head unit because it can be connected to a full-speed iPod adaptor to integrate the head unit with the iPod.
This is where I begin to get confused. I've read on the forums that I could keep the amp and use a 2nd preamp output from the head unit and connect the rears through that and the fronts through the 1st preamp out. The most important factor in all this is that I want the superior iPod control that I've read is the best with the new Alpine head units. I would also like the simplest installation possible. The Alpine that I would like to buy has only on preamp out. (The buttons are green so they'll match the car.)
Is it necessary to keep the HK amp at all? Would the amp in the new head unit be just as good?
Could I get by with only one pair of preamps out? Should I have someone install this for me?
Any other ideas or opinions?
Thanks for your indulgence,
Rob
