My only concern with going to 50 weight is that oil will tend to seek the appropriate viscosity. Heavier grades will ultimately thin out by shearing to get to the right vis. The more shear, the more the heat builds. Years ago before synthetic, I raced a bugeye Sprite and used 40 weight, not 50 like the rest of the competition. My engine ran cooler and had no appreciable wear. The ideal oil is the lightest oil that protects from metal-to-metal contact. Heavier oil is really designed for engines with bigger bearing tolerances.
