1. You can trace the noise paths with a 'mechanics ear', which is basically a stethoscope with a stinger on the end. They are about $10 at any auto parts store. With a good mount you'll hear lots of 'noise' on the engine side, and much less on the bulkhead side.
2. I know it's too late for you, but to others with bad mounts, both the two uppers and the transmission mount, I strongly suggest you try my silicone fill method before going to the trouble of replacing the mounts. You should find references to this on this forum.
