is replace BOTH the thermostat and radiator fan switch.
some recommend the cooler ones, some recommend the warmer ones. warmer ones may increase fuel mileage slightly.
whichever you choose, make sure they match! otherwise, you'll either run the fan most or all the time, or you'll experience large temp swings when sitting in traffic (kinda like what you are seeing now - hmmm...)
eeuroparts has both for about $50. cheap compared to a head gasket.
i recommend using better antifreeze, such as the Mercedes stuff that better parts places sell now.
it sounds like a fairly small problem right now - don't let it get out of hand!
