i'm back.
last time i posted on the 900 board. i let that one pass on account it didn't even start (even if it was a very very negotiable $400).
well, i found a 9000. (turbo unknown- i'll write the owner for the vin number and decode it on the website later here) its a '93, with a sunroof for $1200. Problem is a rear passenger disc. For $1500 the guy takes care of the disc for me (car and disc and work- not just the disc). the disc is pretty bad- cracked parallel and perpendicular to the disc and you can feel it through the brake pedal. disc on its own is no big deal- its the parking brake and springs and everything that i feel would be a pandora's box once its opened up)
anyway, the rest of it looks pretty nice. the dash is suncracked from being a southern car (texas, tennesee, then chicago somehow) headiner is held on with pins, and the seller-owner fell into the car on account someone owed him some money (making me the fourth owner at least) and he never even bothered getting license plates. the problem is that i'm suspicious of the airbag missing on account the horn buttons are gone.
for a '93 saab with a (probably) 2004 or so clutch and an airbag (i hope) in this price range it seems nice. (its this or an '87 volvo wagon and this has an airbag is quicker on its feet than the wagon). Unfortunately with sparse records only dating back a year or so, short of a carfax report or a code reader or finding out the hard way i don't think i'm prepared to tell if the airbag is there or not. given its an unlikely thing to suspect, but my sister wrecked her car little over a year ago- and its going to her in the hope- of course- that i'll get it when she's tired of it. i'll try the compression tester on it tomorrow after stopping by the bank but i don't want to take it on the road until its got at least one new disc.
big unknowns for me? vacuum lines a plenty and fuel injection oh my. (my other car is a '66 bug and a '68 m-b 220. no vaccum lines in the former, and only two in the latter thank goodness(brake booster and distributor only- and even then its tricky if i'm not careful). now if saab had diesels...
your two cents?
