...1987 9000 Turbo. I just did the head gasket. Car started up and ran great (aside from smoke) prior to doing the head gasket. I also confirmned that I currently have good spark.
I don't seem to see any gasoline on the new NGK plugs after I crank. (I cranked a long time to remove air from the system - there is no bleed valve. I also openned the fuel return line and jumpered the relay to purge the system of air). I have a fuel filter that I can see from the windshield, so I openned the upper bolt and cranked the engine...no spray. I jumpered the top of spark plug 13 to the top of 14 and there was gas spraying everywhere, so pump is good. I have removed the glove box and all the relays are there. I figured it might be a relay BUT I tried to crank with the wires jumpered but still no start. I swapped the injection and fuel pump relays, no help, so I am not sure if it is a relay at all, especially as the car started prior to headgasket.
Prior to openning up the engine, I scribed marks in the distributer and the rotor and the valve cover to ID my original timing. My timing chain was also clearly marked. I don't think this is a timing issue. Still I moved the wires 180 degrees thinking I screwed up, no help. I then replaced the wires in the original position and rotated the distributer in 1 degree increments up to 10 degrees forward and 10 degrees back. Still no start. I also re-confimed TDC and distributer positioning with my original scrib, and it all checked out.
I am frustrated and stumped. Please give me some ideas.
TIA
