howling noise from turbo Posted by inca99 [Email] (#1862) [Profile/Gallery] (more from inca99) on Mon, 14 May 2007 15:59:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
ok, just got off the phone w/ my indie about a "howling noise" that I am experiencing when the engine is revved up. it can be at idle or on the road, but whenever i get around 3 - 4500 rpms, and then only on the "idle down side" i hear this noise that sounds like - the only way I can explain it is the sound a basset hound makes when they bay - sort of a "howling". i know that's a little obscure for most of you, but that is the best way to describe it. my indie hasn't gotten very far into the diagnosis, but he seems to think the turbo is going bad. insidentally, the turbo boost on this car isn't great, but never considered a bad turbo. it there a way to see if it is functioning properly, and if not, what is the best way to address a replacement. would it make sense to upgrade the turbo to increase performance if it needs replacement?
thanks,
Inca99
