The switch contacts carbonize after time.

If it doesn't function you have nothign to loose by opening it up to clean it up.

The two halves of the switch will pop apart. Use a few flat head screwdrivers to pry the tabs out and pull the halves apart.

The steup is brilliantly simple, try to remove the halves slowly as to not jostle all the inside pieces. The two halves coming together is what actually holds the pieces in place. There is a contact surface, over which these copper colored metal pieces lay. The caution when popping the pack open is there because they will come spilling out all over the place. The pieces a like W's and V's with the legs widened out. As you rock the switches to activate the windows, the ends of the copper pieces are pushed downinto the contact plate, completeing the circuit and sending the go signal to the window. What happens over time is that the repeated arcing when the two metals touch, soots up the contact area. It also wears the area, to the point where it can make a hole it the contact plate. And finally, if you have ever spilled a liquid other than water ( and who hasn't) in that area, you'll find the remnents of it there as well.

Sooooo.. get out the towel and have at it.. it is less work than you think... a little emory cloth and the contacts will be fine.. a little water and the gunk will disolve.. :)
