...It is the kind of project a dad gives to a kid as his first time DIY.
Front struts are not hard, but you need special tools.
You will need PB blaster in case the shock nuts are frozen, a set of crescents and sockets/ratchets (metric), a hammer for frozen nuts, and some time to look at everything prior to wrenching. It is not a bad idea to get a vicegrips too as it can prevent a shaft from spinning.
Evaluate how the bolts secure the shocks. Think of what you will do if one gets stuck (will you replace the old unit or are you able to struggle through and pull it all out). It is best to do this job with the car up on a ramp, as the car is too low to do it on the ground, and wrenching on a car that is suspended on a factory car jack is very dangerous.
