The new and improved 9k shift linkage turns out to be a curse after all. The one piece construction lasts a lot longer than the clamped rubber design prior to 94. But woe be you if you want to replace it. I think that is what your indy is trying to do. The old design may not last as long. But if it goes bad it takes only 30 minutes to replace. You don't need to touch the tapered pin.

Only last week I was trying to do the same on my 94cde and gave up. I swapped the drive train with that from my 94cs. After the swap I did the shift adjustment three times and could not get it right. I thought the shift linkage (the new and improved variety) went kaput. So I attempted to hammer the pin out. No luck. Finally I tried one more linkage adjustment and luckily it worked. So I left the stuck pin in there.

BTW the standard procedure (my standard procedure) is to loosen the nut on the pin until the end is flush with the end of the pin. Then use a 12 oz hammer to hammer it loose. I was successful at this the previous time, not last week.
